09/11/2019-NZC Visiting Fellow Professor Jaspreet Dhupia Visits Peking University

Professor Jaspreet Dhupia from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Auckland University visited Peking University as a New Zealand Centre fellow. On the 22nd of October, he presented his seminar entitled “Improving Performance and Reliability of Mechatronic Systems Using Modelling and Control Strategies.” The seminar was held at the Intelligent Control Lab, located in the Centre for Systems and Control, and was hosted by Professor Haixia Zhang from Institute of Micro Electronics, Peking University. 25/10/2019-Dr Gillian Skryme Gives Lectures to the Undergraduate Course Students

Dr Gillian Skryme from Massey University offered her two lectures to the New Zealand History and Culture students at Peking University. In her Linguistic Landscape lecture she explained how language pertains to New Zealand’s history and current make-up. In her other lecture she spoke on New Zealand English as an antipodean variety, especially in concern with the quirks of New Zealand informal speech. Read more...

The New Zealand History and Culture class at Peking University runs again this autumn semester, giving Chinese students a rare glimpse of a country they might otherwise know little of. The course offers its students an extension to their understanding of the English language and foreign culture while allowing New Zealand to raise its profile through China’s top University.

Auckland University of Technology’s professor of electric engineering, Tek Lie visited Peking University for the first time through the New Zealand Centre Fellowship. This opportunity allowed him to share his ideas on managing risks to nation-wide electric grids, and also take in ideas from Peking University scholars on energy production and global distribution. The New Zealand Centre welcomed a delegation from the University of Otago headed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Internatioanl) Professor Helen Nicholson, The Centre Director Professor Liu Shusen and Associate Professor Liu Hongzhong had a meeting with the guests to highlight and reflect on the present relationship between the two universities and beyond.

New Zealand Centre at PKU hosted a meeting with representatives of Massey University and Shihezi University: Head of the School of Humanities of Massey University Dr. Kerry Taylor and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shihezi University Professor Cheng Zhaoxiang.
