Otago delegates with NZC staff
The main purpose of the meeting was to cherish the past successful collaborations and to discuss the possibility of new collaborations as a way to maintain and develop the current solidarity that University of Otago has within China and especially with Peking University. Both universities agreed that they have so far shared a pleasant mutual exchange of professors contributing to China-NZ scholarship and hence strengthening the affinity between University of Otago and Peking University. Special mentions were given to NZC fellows from Otago University: Dr Anne Ford, Professor Hazel Tucker and Professor Richard Blaikie. One of the new initiatives suggested by Mr Cushen was to establish a short Summer School project on landscape geography which would enable PKU students to travel to Dunedin, participate in field trips, and experience New Zealand nature first-hand. The New Zealand Centre staff welcomed the idea as a possibility and kindly requested for a proposal in order to examine further details. Other discussions included the feasibility of Otago University students interning at the New Zealand Centre. The delegation’s visit to Peking University ended with Professor Liu’s congratulation on the University of Otago’s 150th anniversary this year and its remarkable achievements so far. The New Zealand Centre looks forward to an ongoing friendship and extensive cooperation with the University of Otago. |
