New Zealand Ambassador to China and Her Delegation Visit Peking University
On the morning of 8th December, 2021, New Zealand Ambassador to China, Her Excellency Clare Fearnley visited Peking University together with her delegation including Education Counsellor of the New Zealand Embassy in China Ms. Miranda Herbert, Science, Technology and Innovation Counsellor Mr. Clinton Watson. Peking University President Hao Ping and Vice President Wang Bo received the guests at Linhuxuan Pavilion. President Hao Ping welcomed Ms. Clare Fearnley and her entourage to Peking University. He said that China and New Zealand have a long history of friendly exchanges, and Peking University has established long-term cooperation projects with many universities in New Zealand. As an important platform for cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education, the New Zealand Centre at Peking University, jointly built with eight universities in New Zealand, is promoting and strengthening exchanges and cooperation between Peking University and Chinese universities and universities in New Zealand. Remarkable achievements have been made in enhancing mutual understanding between China and New Zealand and their peoples, which have been recognized by people from all walks of life on both sides. Hao Ping hoped that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand in 2022, the Centre will be used as a platform to further enhance exchanges between Peking University and New Zealand's first-class universities and scientific research institutions, and to promote cooperation between the two sides in teacher-student exchanges, cooperative courses, joint research and other fields. Ms. Clare Fearnley thanked Peking University for its warm reception. She briefed the current situation and the latest protective measures taken in New Zealand to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. She also said that for New Zealand, New Zealand-China relations are one of the most important bilateral relations, and education cooperation is one of the bases of cooperation between the two countries. She herself also benefited a lot from the educational exchanges between the two countries. The New Zealand government and universities attach great importance to the New Zealand Centre of Peking University and appreciate its functions for more than a decade, and will, as always, support the development of the centre in the future, and hope to further expand the areas of cooperation on the basis of existing projects, especially in areas of common interest between the two countries, such as life sciences, food safety, environmental health and ecological protection. As an alumna of Peking University, Ms. Clare Fearnley hopes to return to her alma mater and strengthen the cooperation between the New Zealand Embassy in China and Peking University. Guo Li, Party Secretary of Peking University Law School , LV Zhi, Director of the Research Center for Nature Conservation and Social Development, Xia Hongwei, Director of the Office of international Relations, and Liu Hongzhong from the Peking University New Zealand Centre were at the meeting.
