As one of the joint programmes in the past three years, the University of Canterbury and Peking University have been running a five–week intensive Chinese programme for about a dozen of UC students to study at Peking University for four or five weeks in the autumn semester. The joint annual programme has been sponsored by New Zealand Prime Minister’s Scholarship. This semester ten UC students are learning Chinese language and culture at Peking University as part of the joint programme between the University of Canterbury and Peking University.
Earlier, Dr. William Shannon donated a book NGӐ PӖPEHA: a ngă Topīna to the NZC library as he always does every time he visits the Centre. The English translation of the title is “Sayings of the Ancestors”. This bilingual collection has won Montana New Zealand Book Awards: Reference and anthology winner 2002. The New Zealand Centre is very grateful for his continuous contribution. |
