In a highly globalised and technology-saturated world in the 21st century, intercultural communication and practical translation skills are increasingly sought after by employers across all sectors. To meet the global need, Victoria University of Wellington launches a brand new master programme “Master of Intercultural Communication and Applied Translation (MICAT)” , which will take students’ bilingual or multilingual skills to the next level and open doors to a professional language-related career. MICAT is a taught 180-point master’s degree tailored for bilingual/multilingual students wishing to pursue a career in the rapidly growing language services industry and related fields. The MICAT programme provides students with relevant skills and theoretical understanding of intercultural communication and translation. It also prepares them to apply those skills in professional settings, while providing a pathway for some students to continue to doctoral study in the field of Translation Studies. Students who are fluent in Chinese and wish to enhance their skills in English can have the best of both worlds by studying in an English-language environment with outstanding scholars with expertise in Chinese and in Translation Studies when they enrol in the Master of Intercultural Communication and Applied Translation (MICAT) at Victoria University of Wellington.
