  • Chair of New Zealand Centre Advisory Board Professor Alister Jones Visits Peking University

     

    15/06/2023 --- Professor Alister Jones Chair of New Zealand Advisory Board and   his colleague Ms. Mu Lan, Associate Director of the Global Programmes at the International Office of the University of Waikato visited Peking University and had fruitful discussions with New Zealand Centre colleagues.

     

    On 15 June, 2023, Chair of New Zealand Advisory Board Professor Alister Jones visited Peking University along with his colleague Ms. Mu Lan, Associate Director of the Global Programmes at the International Office of the University of Waikato. Professor Alister Jones was among the earliest international visitors to Peking University when the three-year travel restriction began to be lifted when the pandemic declined globally.

    On his visit to New Zealand Centre, Professor Alister Jones primarily discussed preparations for the visit of New Zealand Prime Minister Hon. Chris Hipkins to Peking University in June. Among other things, preparations for the launch of the Rewi Alley Professor Programme during Hon. Chris Hipkins’ visit to Peking University was prioritized, in addition to the details of the arrival of Professor Lawrence Simmons as the inaugural Rewi Alley Professor to teach in the 2023 International Summer School of Peking University in July.  

     

    Professor Alister Jones also discussed with New Zealand Centre colleagues what NZC would engage with in the autumn semester when the international travel restriction is fully lifted, including arrangements for hosting the coming visiting fellows and students of short-term visits from New Zealand universities.
     

    This is Professor Alister Jones’ second visit to the New Zealand Centre after his first visit on 20 March which took place immediately after the boarder opened this year. The both visits are significant to the restart of many Centre activities.
