  • Dr Amjed Tahir Collaborates with His Colleagues at PKU

01/12/2019 – NZC is proud to receive a 2019 visiting fellow Dr Amjed Tahir, Lecturer at Massey University School of Engineering and Advanced Technology for his two-week research collaboration with Professor Zhang Lu of the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science at Peking University.

Dr Amjed Tahir arrived at PKU on 17 November for the 2019 Visiting Fellowship he was awarded from the New Zealand Centre Advisory Board.  At Peking University, he was hosted by Prof Zhang Lu from the Institute of Software, School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, and Key Laboratory of High Confidence Software Technologies of Peking University. Dr Amjed spent two weeks at Prof Zhang’s lab, working on a new joint research project to study the non-deterministic behaviour of software tests known as test flakiness. During his visit to Peking University Dr Amjed aslo had a meeting with the staff of the New Zealand Centre.

Dr Amjed has a track record of effective academic engagements within China, namely at Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) where he delivered Massey University’s “Joint College” BInfSci programme between 2017 and 2019, as well as Nanjing and Wuhan Universities, where Dr Amjed delivered seminars in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

This 2019 visit also seeks to provide a strong platform for solid research collaboration between Massey Software Engineering Group and Prof Zhang’s group at the Institute of Software at PKU. Dr Amjed’s field of research aligns with the economic agendas of both New Zealand and China, as IT and software development in both countries has large and broad impacts across growth in industries from precision agriculture to medical science to mobile phones and gaming. A promising research collaboration is now underway, which also involves postgraduate students from both ends, and may lead to future joint publications.

During this trip, Dr Tahir was accompanied by two PhD students from Massey University Shawn Rasheed and Li Sui, who are both working with the team in this new project. Future visits are also planned to continue with this collaboration.
