Victoria University collaborated with the New Zealand Centre to host two visiting fellows from the Marketing and Management schools at Peking University. The visiting fellows partnered with local university staff and third parties to deliver guest lectures on "How will you find an attractive celebrity to endorse your brand and products in China?" and "Why is economic confidence low in China, but consumer confidence high? How does the Chinese middle class evolve as they buy?" - all topics of high interest in the hugely China-dependent New Zealand economy. The visit also allowed for former NZC Visiting Fellows visiting China to reconnect with Peking University staff who had assisted them during their stay, as was the case for Dr Hongzhi Gao, who hard worked with the same department during his visit to China in 2014 (for details, click here). Professor Hongxia Zhang is a Professor of Marketing, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. Professor Zhang has a wide range of consumer research interests including consumer behaviour, children and adolescents behaviour, branding and advertising. Her research has appeared in some highly-regarded marketing journals including Journal of International Marketing, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Marketing Management and among others. She reviews for some highly-reputable China-based marketing and psychology journals including Journal of Marketing Science, Acta Psychological Sinica, Psychological Science and among others.Professor Zhang has visited many top universities in the world, such as The University of Oxford, The Kellogg School of Management, Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, University of Southern California, Menlo College, AUTOGO, The university of Auckland, The University of Melbourne, National Taiwan University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Professor Zhang collaborated with Fay Nie, who is a strategist and lead of Ocean ChinaFocus, to deliver a series of guest lectures at Victoria University during the visit. Born in southern China, she lived twelve years in Beijing and moved to New Zealand in 2014. She has worked with many local and global companies, including Volkswagen, Fisher & Paykel, Fly Buys, Financial Times, Sinopec, and Air China.

Victoria University also welcomed Dr Xuan Zhang who acquired her PhD in Business Management from the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, under supervision of Professor Hongxia Zhang. Dr Zhang has been an Assistant Professor at School of Business Administration, China University of Petroleum-Beijing, since 2014. Her research interests in Marketing include consumer behaviour, branding and marketing models. Dr Zhang’s publications have appeared in Journal of International Marketing, Advances in Psychological Science (Chinese journal), Journal of Marketing Science (Chinese journal) and among others. She has presented her research in some highly-recognized international academic conferences including the Association for Consumer Research Asia-Pacific Conference, Marketing Science Conference among others. Dr Zhang conducted research during her visit to Wellington, and worked with former NZC Visiting Fellow to Peking University, Dr Hongzhi Gao, to prepare specialist research materials and collaborative meetings with members of the business management faculty.
